Childhood friends.
Tristan Rosier might have asked Malorie Monsard to marry him when he was five years old, but things had only gone downhill from there. She’d spent the rest of their lives ignoring him, abandoning him, and destroying his perfumes. Now she was back, to wreak who knew what havoc on his life.
Lifelong enemies.
Tristan might choose to dismiss the generations-long enmity between their two families, but Malorie didn’t have that privilege. Like all the other privileges wealthy, gorgeous Tristan took for granted that she couldn’t. But if she was going to restore her family company to glory, she might just need his help.
Or the perfect match?
They’d known each other all their lives. Could these childhood friends and lifelong enemies ever uncross their stars and find happily ever after?
Laura Florand, bestselling author of The Chocolate Kiss, combines lush description, smart dialogue, provocative sensuality, and the perfume of love itself in A Crown of Bitter Orange, an irresistibly lush novel that is an ode to the scents and pleasures of the south of France and the beauty of falling in love.
A Crown of Bitter Orange La Vie en Roses Book 3 eBook Laura Florand
I was able to voluntarily read an advance copy of this book. Like all of Florand's book, it was simply lovely. Her way with an evocative description is simply unmatched. I will admit, I had been reading some more plot driven, faster paced books, so returning to Florand's work meant reminding myself to slow down and enjoy the prose rather than racing from scene to scene to find out how things progress. This is the story of Mallory and Tristan. Tristan is the youngest cousin of the Rosier family. And while I believe this book could be read on its own, you'll definitely get a deeper, more enjoyable experience if you've read the other books and novellas in the Rosier/Delange family.
I particularly loved seeing how Mallory had been oblivious to handsome, charming, confident Tristan's crush on her when they were in school. And it was beautiful to see years of shame about her family history be overcome as she both learns to stand on her own in a place with so much history and is wrapped into a new family.
Reading this book was as lovely as lounging on a blanket in an orchard as orange blossoms gently float down around you.

A Crown of Bitter Orange La Vie en Roses Book 3 eBook Laura Florand Reviews
Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes. I always like Florand's ability to really immerse the reader in the setting with her lovely descriptions but the relationship part was a bit OTT? I think what I liked the most was realizing that, even today, people can still feel the effects of WWII occupation of France.
Love Laura Florand's writing. The characters are always well developed and true to themselves. Lots of analogies, well put-together sentences and connectivity through out the books. There is always a happy ending. The setting in France is a bonus! The family history and perfume business is a well thought out theme connecting all of the books in this series.
This was a very satisfying installment of this series. The setting transports me to the south of France and the characters are people I want to spend time with. This book was refreshingly free of that romance standby characters creating their own problems.
I enjoyed it. Here she returns to her usual style. Each novel seems a comment on past novels. Here, she introduces a couple playing the long game who don't immediately discuss marriage after three days. Minor comments In recent novels i.e. Chase Me, Florand started overusing 'that' and leaning heavily on passive voice. But once the book hit chapter four, this habit abated and her normal floral style took over. She took a lot of time building the characters rather than rushing into the physical. However, I felt a little cheated. Her epilogues typically give us a glimpse into the couple's 'happily ever after.' This time around it just served to introduce the new character for the next book.If you need to escape today's climate, this definitely provides the necessary warm blanket.
I have a book hangover from this one and want to go back and read it again! Immediately! I have loved Tristan from the beginning of the series and love him more now! Mallory appreciates his good (great!) qualities, but never thinks she could be good enough for him. Tristan, while having somewhat of a playboy reputation, is focused on winning Mallory, 10 years after high school. His family, of course, wants to mess with him, as well as to make sure Mallory appreciates him and is good enough for him. "She'll do." Moving right into Lucien's story, A Kiss in Lavender.
A novel about family heritage, about coming home, and finding a home in someone. Malorie tried to walk away from her family’s disgraceful history and make a place for herself on her own. But when her grandmother dies, she comes home to make decisions on behalf of her scattered sisters about what to do with what is left behind. Tristan the youngest of the Rosier cousins, is waiting for her. He in fact has been waiting for to come home for a very long time. Safely grounded in the fertile soil of the Rosier Family, Tristan has to learn how to communicate and love Malorie in a way she understand, to climb the walls of her loneliness and overcome her suspicions. I loved the organic growth of their relationship and how the resolution to their conflict was natural and believable.
This was such an enjoyable read, and a great addition to the La Vie en Roses series. It's a wonderful blend of deep emotion and humor. There's always so much beneath the surface of this author's words, and I relish peeling back the story layer by layer. Tristan was such a fun, lighthearted hero who is clearly enamored of Malorie, the heroine. He's always seen her as a refuge and kind of clung to her, but wasn't able to make a move properly before she left their region for Paris and then New York. Her hesitance to get into a relationship with him, or even admit that he might like her, made sense to me. Her family history certainly did a number on her. I do wish we got a bit more detail about what exactly her father's transgressions were as they were mostly glossed over or referred to generally.
The angst level was low here, as was the heat level. The flirty banter was definitely engaging, but I could've used a bit more steam ) All in all, another great book by a favorite author, and an engaging couple that will stick in my mind.
Also, seeing all the cousins interact was so much fun. I love seeing the past heroes from a new perspective, and I can't WAIT to meet Lucien. The author has done an amazing job of whetting the reader's appetite for his story.
I voluntarily reviewed an early copy of this book.
